About Clorsulon

Clorsulon is a potent sulfonamide anthelmintic used primarily in veterinary medicine for the treatment of liver fluke infestations, particularly Fasciola hepatica, in cattle and sheep. While clorsulon is most effective against adult liver flukes, it is commonly administered in combination with ivermectin to expand its spectrum to internal parasites such as gastrointestinal roundworms, lungworms, lice, mange mites, and grubs.

 

​​Clorsulon is usually given by subcutaneous injection as part of a combined product with ivermectin. It is indicated for cattle, sheep, goats, and camels, but not approved for use in dairy cattle producing milk for human consumption or in unapproved species (can cause severe adverse reactions in dogs).

 

Mechanism and Metabolism

Clorsulon works by inhibiting key enzymes in the glycolytic pathway of liver flukes, disrupting their energy metabolism and leading to parasite death.
